MFN’s New Appointments Lead Training Initiative
In accordance with a policy of continuous improvement, MFN is pleased to announce important developments in their training organization.
Paul Huyton has been appointed Course Director (Shot Peen) and Nai Puay Guan appointed Course Director (Flap Peen). The brief of the Course Director is to ensure consistency and co-ordinate improvements to course contents. The Directors also maintain the courses to industry standards and encompass new technical developments.
Nai Puay Guan is also appointed Examinations Director, with a brief to ensure that examinations are consistent with course contents and an appropriate demonstration of capability at the required level of competence.
Both Paul and Nai are well established MFN trainers and Lead Auditors in the Nadcap programme. They bring a strong combination of theoretical knowledge and applications experience to these new positions.
The first fruits of this initiative are an impressive revision of the training course structure and the corresponding examinations papers. In common with other special process standards, the courses are designated Level 1 (Basic), Level 2 (Intermediate) and Level 3 (Advanced).
Level 1 provides training in peening workshop operations & inspections; it is the minimum requirement for shot peen operators and the foundation for level 2.
Level 2 builds on the knowledge gained in level 1 to provide increased capability for shot peen supervisors & technicians.
Level 3 provides greater breadth and depth of knowledge to enhance the competence of auditors, trainers, design engineers and process specialists.
Prior experience or qualifications can be taken into account when choosing courses. However, students are advised to work through successive levels to ensure a strong grasp of the fundamentals and knowledge that is consistent with industry requirements.
Certification in these three levels is an acknowledged proof of competence within the industry. The courses are approved by the FAA.
MFN is also the Partner in Education in Nadcap and the Official Sponsor of the Federation of European Material Science (FEMS). The MFN training is furthermore recommended by SPORT - the Nordic association for advanced shot peening technology.
To attain a certificate a student must demonstrate capability to the required level and any previous level. This is another good reason to take the levels and tests in the intended sequence. Certification only comes from attaining the pass criteria in the MFN test. To demonstrate the previous level capability other proof i.e. other credible certification, may be considered by MFN.
All three levels have a specific training course and examination. Of particular interest is the new level 3 (Advanced) course which includes exceptional material on fatigue, stress corrosion cracking and new developments such as laser and ultra-sonic peening. The creation of these positions demonstrates the commitment of MFN to maintain standards as the global leader in Shot Peen Training. The Directors also provide a point of contact for other trainers or outside specialists who wish to comment on or contribute to the training courses.
