In the Spotlight

Shandong Kaitai Shot Blasting Machinery Co., Ltd is a professional enterprise of foundry machine and casting products, which combines research, development, production, installation, debugging service and marketing. In cooperation with The School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Jinan, the company is dedicated in developing surface shot blasting, shot peening and strengthening equipment. Main products include a shot blasting (peening) machine, sand dealing machine, environmental dust removal equipment and spare parts, which provide the ideal key equipments for casting, forging, heat treatment, steel structure, container, machinery, shipyard, aircraft, locomotive and machine tools.

1. Parts of airless blasting cleaning machine

There are two types of blast cleaning machines, air blast and airless blast (wheel blast). Air blast propels the media with high velocity compressed air. Airless blast propels the media via a motor either directly mounting the blast wheel on the motor shaft or indirectly with motor mounted sheaves with belts driving a bearing assembly that the blast wheel is mounted upon. Airless blasting is the more common blast cleaning technique as well as the most economical and environmentally friendly method. It is known for being more versatile, allowing for a wider range of parts, production output and finish requirements. Some parts such as blast wheel, work handling system, electrical system, reclaim system, separation system, abrasive storage system and ventilation system, are found to be necessities. Application of airless blasting cleaning machine parts is introduced as follows.

2. Blast wheel

The function of the wheel is similar to that of a fan or centrifugal pump. Abrasive from an overhead storage hopper is metered to the center of the wheel unit. The impeller moves the abrasive through its multiple tapered openings and out through the single stationary opening in the cast alloy control cage. The abrasive particles picked up on the inner ends of the blade throwing face are rapidly accelerated as they move to the end of the blades at the outer edge of the wheel. The shape and size of the parts determine the number of wheels used in a machine. Power of the turbine motor is based on degree of cleaning needed and through speed of the material. For example, the Q69 Steel Plate and Steel Profile Shot Blasting Machine has the corresponding blasting wheel. It applies to the surface rust removal and painting of steel plate and steel profile, which is used in shipping, automobiles, motorcycles, bridges, machines etc.

3. Abrasive recovery systems

An abrasive blast recovery system is capable of abrasive blasting, recovery and classifying a wide variety of abrasive media. It consists of two basic components such as blasting system and media classification system. The blast system consists of a storage hopper a single chamber pressure vessel blast pot with two blast outlets. The blast chamber is depressurized utilizing the blow down valve on the side of the blast pot. The shot hits the part and the abrasive falls into the collection hopper under the machine, and then, is carried by gravity or screw conveyor to a bucket elevator. The elevator carries the shot, removed oxides and other contaminates to an air wash separator. A combination of baffles, strainers and plates separate these contaminants. The cleaned abrasive is contained in an upper hopper and is subsequently fed into the shot turbine. For example, Q58 series Piled and Released Shot Blasting Machine has the available abrasive recovery system, which belongs to suspension chains type continuous working overhead rail variety, mainly used for batch cleaning of small and medium castings, forgings, alloys and etc.

4. Blast cabinet

The machine cabinet contains dust and abrasive. A machine mounted dust collector reduces air pressure inside the machine thereby preventing dust from escaping into the shop environment. In the areas that are subject to direct high velocity shot, the cabinets are built from low carbon steel with an inner shell made of abrasive resistant materials including high strength alloy plates and thick rubber compounds.

5. Dust collector systems

The dust collector system provides negative pressure to the system to assure dust free operation as well as performing the pneumatic separation of the abrasive and waste mix. During shot blasting, dust produced is withdrawn from the machinery cabinet and continuously recirculating abrasive by a dust collector. The dust collector not only evacuates dust within the machine but also keeps the surrounding area clean and dust free. Changes in airflow will reduce collector efficiency and therefore result in lower dust extraction, loss of the cleaning power, and contribute to dust in the immediate production area. A properly designed and sized dust collector is therefore critical to the ongoing performance of the shot blasting system. For example, Q37 Hook Type Shot Blasting Machine is equipped with a high efficiency dust collector. It has the advantages of no pit, compact structure, and high productivity.

6. Holding systems

Holding systems mainly depend on the design type of machine, this may be rubber tumbling mill apron belt, fixture of hooks or pockets, hanger with hooks, rotary table or tables, or pass-through roller or belt conveyor. For materials in large quantities, tumblast machines are used. For larger and heavier pieces, spinner hanger machines are used. For the shot peening of gears and other special components, tables and multi table machines are used. For cleaning pipes, plates and bars, wire continuous machines are used.

7. Electrical systems

Electrical systems include wiring, controls, and motors to power a safe operation system. This system provides the control and instruction for the starting and stopping of all functions such as, elevators, dust collectors, turbines, part handling systems, ammeters and time meters for the turbine motors. The control panel is designed with sequential startup to assure the different systems are energized in the proper sequence. All systems can be automated for continuous processing that will increase production, reduce operator interaction and consistently maintain a particular surface specification. For example, Q32 Tumble Belt Shot Blasting Machine has the homologous electrical cabinet to control all functions with advantages of advanced design, reasonable structure, small energy consumption and high efficiency.
