Spaleck Oberflächentechnik, is a leading specialist in surface finishing, and can look back on 80 years experience in surface finishing. In addition to providing vibratory and centrifugal finishing machines, the German company has developed new and combined treatment technologies, and specializes in offering complete system engineering, optimized for productivity and cost saving.
Right now the blanks for a 10 Euro commemorative coin for the World Cup 2006 are polished in a minting institution, located in the south of Germany.
Until today the blanks were polished in small drums demanding a lot of manual effort, that’s why they have been looking for a fully automatic treatment method for this special field of coin blank finishing for quite a long time.
They found a solution by combining a Z 33 centrifugal finishing machine with a hot air drier SFT 25, a drier especially designed for this purpose, a solution that does not only fulfil the demand of the expected production automation, but also the high quality requirements regarding the surface of the blanks.
This system is capable of polishing and finishing 10.000 silver blanks per hour, blanks with a diameter of 38 mm. The treatment is comfortably controlled and supervised via touchscreen.
Special polishing media and chemicals remove the oxides from the blanks resulting from the preceding annealing process. At the same time the blanks are protected against oxidation and discolouration thanks to specially engineered compounds.
After the treatment cycle an absolutely residue-free drying must be guaranteed. This is assured in the newly developed hot air drier SFT 25, technically designed in accordance with the latest know-how in the field of preparing the blanks surface, ready for striking.
Finally, this does not only result in a better striking process, but also increases the lifetime of the die.
The feedback of users regarding the hot air drier developed by Spaleck is excellent, as this drier does not only replace the often known granulate drier, but at the same time it sets new standards in a well developed area of hot air drying and allows to reach spotless, dry blank surfaces.
It is this quality in particular that makes the drier interesting for different fields, such as the electrical, the medical and the computer sector.
