An MFN Flap Peen training course has been provided to FR Aviation Services at RAF Waddington, UK. FR Aviation Services maintain the RAF fleet of Boeing Sentry E3 aircraft, known as AWACS (Airborne Warning And Control Systems). These distinctive looking aircraft provide security through surveillance of ground and airborne activity. Developed from the Boeing 707 civil aircraft, the Sentry is packed with specialized avionics and has both downward-looking and “beyond the horizon” radar capability.

“I was impressed by the scale and complexity of the maintenance undertaken on these aircraft. This must entail considerable technical and project management skills in FR Aviation Services” says MFN trainer, Paul Huyton. “These capabilities were reflected in the five staff who undertook the flap peen training course. From very little prior knowledge of peening, the trainees managed to attain very good results in the theoretical part of the tests. They also displayed a high level of proficiency during the individual practical assessment.”

MFN is a partner in education with the Performance Review Institute for the Nadcap programme. FAA accepted training courses in flap peening and three levels of shot peening qualification can be provided by MFN through on-site training and open workshops. MFN has a global capability and can deliver training in several languages.
