MFN Introduces Vibratory Finishing Training

Starting from Spring 2008, MFN will offer vibratory finishing training. The new training will either be carried out as on-site seminars or during local workshops. In the beginning, the one day courses will be held in English and German, other languages will follow.

Vibratory finishing is a mass finishing process where work pieces (mainly metal parts) are put in a vibratory motion together with finishing media (abrasive chips) and chemical compound to produce the desired surface finishing or material removal. The effects of vibratory finishing include deburring, radiusing, surface finishing, descaling, degreasing, polishing and brightening.

Training in general, has been an important factor for MFN for many years. Our organisation started to provide shot peening training in 2001 and has continuously expanded its trainer team to 26 people from 14 nations (see also www.mfn.li/trainers). Approximately 750 people enrolled for shot peening training in 2007. This training network is supported by MFN offices in 9 countries (Canada, England, Germany, France, Holland, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan and the U.S.A.). One reason for this huge demand is that shot peening, similar to vibratory finishing, is not really taught at engineering schools and universities.

With the new vibratory finishing training, MFN wants to enter a new market segment. It is designed for whoever is dealing with the vibratory finishing process. So operators, supervisors, process & maintenance engineers, buyers, even trainers will be able to either learn something completely new, or at least be able to refresh their knowledge. The target group for this education program are companies and organizations which are involved in vibratory finishing.

To add this new process to our training network has been a big and well prepared step for MFN. We hope that we will be able to contribute so that people around the globe, involved in vibratory finishing, have the means to receive a qualified training and education program.
