Introduction of Jesus Ruiz-Hervias (Ph.D.)

Jesus Ruiz-Hervias was born in 1965 in Madrid, the capital of Spain. He studied Physics in Universidad Complutense de Madrid and started his academic and research activities in the Department of Materials Science of Technical University of Madrid (UPM) in 1988. Presently, he is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Materials Science and Engineering at the UPM. He is also the founder of Accurate Stress Measurements, a Spanish company which offers consultancy, training and residual stress measurement in materials and components. He is one of the leading researchers in residual stresses in Spain and has a broad experience (over 20 years) with diffraction methods, including laboratory X-rays, neutron and synchrotron sources. He has participated in numerous research projects and International Conferences and published more than 33 scientific papers in journals indexed in SCI. He was a visiting scientist for one year (2003/2004) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, Gaithersburg, MD, USA) with a fellowship awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education. He is presently member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Neutron Society (SETN). Jesus is married and has three children. His hobbies are tennis and astronomy.
