The Ervin sales and technical team demonstrate how to reduce the overall cost of blasting operations
Since it was founded in 2008, Ervin Stainless in Sprockhövel, Germany has enjoyed consistent success in producing and selling our stainless steel abrasives AMACHROME and AMAGRIT. In 2024, a new chapter began, with significant investment in the manufacturing plant to expand capacity of all the stainless steel abrasive products to meet growing customer demand.
Despite all the economic and global challenges of pandemics and economic turbulence in recent years, sales of Ervin Stainless abrasives have continued to grow year after year. The consistently high quality of Ervin stainless steel blasting abrasives AMACHROME and AMAGRIT, which are manufactured exclusively in Sprockhövel, has long been recognised worldwide and ensures the highest quality products delivering the best economic efficiency to customers. The range of stainless steel abrasives are ideal for cleaning and preparing a wide variety of materials including aluminium and zinc die castings, stainless steel castings, welded stainless steel engineering structures, aluminium and stainless steel profiles prior to coating; aluminium, brass and stainless steel forgings, granite, natural stone and concrete parts.
The constant endeavour of the manufacturing team to consistently deliver the best quality backed up by the additional value of expert technical service, has made Ervin Stainless a global market leader in stainless steel abrasives.
This continued success has encouraged Ervin to invest in expanding the production capacity even in an increasingly challenging environment. In September of this year, the Sprockhövel plant commissioned two completely new melting furnaces, which will enable them to meet the increasing demand for products and continue to ensure short delivery times that the Ervin Stainless customers appreciate.
In addition to the new furnaces, the production capacity for AMAGRIT, a high-demand angular stainless steel grit, has also been expanded. Two additional crushing plants have been commissioned. Amagrit is one of the highest quality martensitic stainless steel grits available, delivering the best combination of cleaning power and durability. As an alternative to mineral abrasives (such as glass beads, aluminium oxide, garnet and slag), Amagrit can achieve substantial cost savings and significantly reduce the volume of dust generated in the blasting operation.
The Ervin Stainless fully automatic abrasive mixer has been in operation since the beginning of 2024, making customised mixes of round and angular blasting abrasives possible. The AMAMAX product has been seen significant success since introduction and with the mixer being able to produce specific mixes to the specification of individual customers.
The consistently high quality of Ervin Stainless has winning more and more customers, as the Ervin sales and technical team demonstrate how the range of stainless steel abrasive products reduce the overall cost of their blasting operations.
As a leading manufacturer of complex container structures used in arduous environmental conditions, Gföllner switched from mineral abrasives to Amagrit. The problems they had previously encountered was that high dust levels blasted large internal areas of the containers, which made it difficult for their workers to work and a considerable amount of hazardous waste is generated. After their current abrasive was tested against Amagrit at the Ervin Test Centre in Glaubitz, it became clear that Amagrit met all the surface quality requirements and significantly reduced the amount of dust generated. When the change to Amagrit was implemented at the Gföllner site, productivity was improved immediately. Commenting on the successful switch in abrasive, Michael Stipkovits, Purchasing Manager at Gföllner, said “Anyone who pays attention only to the purchase price is making a big mistake. We are now working with the new Ervin blasting material which is much more economical.”
As shown in numerous examples from actual customer applications, Ervin have been able to demonstrate the huge savings potential offered by switching from more expensive blasting abrasives made of chrome-nickel alloys to our AMACHROME product - especially when blasting aluminium or zinc die-cast and sand-cast parts. Amachrome is also ideal for blasting natural stone and concrete parts and forgings made of aluminium, brass or stainless steel. It performs equally well in automatic wheel blast machines and air blast systems, where the high durability consistently delivers the highest productivity at the lowest cost. Amachrome users consistently report a reduction in abrasive media consumption and reduced wear on their machines.
All customers of Ervin Stainless steel abrasives also benefit from expert technical support, with regular visits to their plants as required, to:
- provide advice on abrasive selection
- review machine settings to ensure reduced wear and optimum abrasive consumption
- assess abrasive performance and work-mix configuration
- assess the cleanliness and, if required surface roughness of work pieces
- provide advice on potential cost savings and productivity increases
