INCASE 2026 at Coventry University, UK – A Symphony of Progress
The third International Conference on Advanced Surface Enhancement (INCASE 2023) was convened from September 26th to 28th at the Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium. Singapore. From its inception in 2019, INCASE has evolved into a powerhouse, a dynamic platform that orchestrates a harmonious collaboration between the research community and its industry partners within the expansive realm of surface engineering technologies.
The Architects of Success:
Organizers and Partners Unleashing Potential
Organized by the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) and the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), both entities under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore, INCASE 2023 also enjoyed the support of partner institutions, such as Coventry University (UK), Metal Finishing News (MFN), and Nanyang Technology University (Singapore).
Fostering a Renaissance in
Collaboration: Surface Engineering for Sustainability
Under the theme of 'Surface Engineering for Sustainability,' INCASE 2023 emphasized the crucial role of surface engineering in promoting sustainable practices and strengthening resilience across various industries. The conference delved into avant-garde topics, exploring advanced techniques, cutting-edge coating materials, sophisticated simulation and modelling methods, characterization of surface and sub-surface properties, non-destructive inspection methodologies, and the burgeoning trends in green technologies shaping the future of surface engineering.
Championing Collaboration:
Visionaries at the Helm
With Professor Upadrasta Ramamurty from Nanyang Technology University, Singapore, steering as the Conference Chair, and Dr Wei Yuefan, representing the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), orchestrating as the Organising Chair, INCASE 2023 set sail on a mission to stimulate robust collaboration between academic luminaries and industrial pioneers. The presence of the distinguished Guest-of-Honour, Professor Ric Parker, Chairman of the Aerospace Programme at A*STAR, Singapore, added a touch of prestige to the event.
Global Synergy and Luminary Voices: Keynotes and Scientific Committee
A symphony of global intellect resonated through the corridors of INCASE 2023 with distinguished keynote speakers: Dr Thomas Haubold, an Engineering Fellow at Rolls-Royce; Professor Christopher Schuh, a renowned Professor of Metallurgy at Northwestern University, US ; Dr Arpana Verma, Global Manager of Materials & Innovation at Halliburton; Professor Christopher Berndt, Director of SEAM and a University Distinguished Professor from Australia; and Dr Felipe Cerdas, Chair of Sustainable Manufacturing and Life Cycle Engineering at Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany. The International Scientific Committee, a gathering of 22 luminaries from around the globe, further enriched the discourse.
A Global Confluence: Statistics That Speak Volumes
INCASE 2023 etched its mark globally, attracting over 160 participants, 29 invited speakers from academia and industry, together with an attractive display of over 100 technical papers and posters. The intellectual tapestry spanned continents, with contributors from Singapore, Thailand, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the UK, and the US.
Industry Backing and Innovation Showcase: Sponsors and Exhibitors
The conference garnered support from six sponsors, including Abrasive Engineering and Halliburton. The exhibition area featured 18 exhibitors from various industries, offering a vibrant space for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas.
A Dialogue on Sustainability and Future Trends: Panel Discussion
A thought-provoking crescendo echoed in the form of a panel discussion titled "Sustainability & Future Trends in Surface Engineering." Moderated by the erudite Professor David Butler (MTC Chair in Sustainable Manufacturing, University of Birmingham, UK), the panel, graced by class-leading professionals such as Dr Jonathan Low (ARTC, Singapore), Dr Thomas Haubold (Rolls-Royce), Professor Christopher Schuh (Northwestern University, US), Dr Arpana Verma (Halliburton), and Dr Felipe Cerdas (Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany), provided insights into the vital role of sustainability in the future manufacturing ecosystem.
A Visionary Conclusion: Guided Exploration on R&D Facilities at CleanTech Park
As the grand finale, INCASE 2023 concluded with a visionary guided tour of research facilities and technology demonstrations at CleanTech Park, Singapore. Hosted by ARTC and SIMTech, this guided exploration offered participants a first-hand experience of the ground-breaking advancements in surface engineering.
