In Memoriam – Paul Abram (1980–2026)

The metal finishing and abrasive blasting industry was deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Abram on 28 May 2026, aged just 46.

Paul served as Technical Director – Europe for Ervin, a role he assumed in 2023 following a distinguished career with the company. Joining Ervin in 2013 as Sales and Services Manager, he was appointed Head of Technical Services in 2016 before progressing to Technical Director. Throughout his career, Paul became one of the industry's most respected technical authorities, generously sharing his knowledge through regular contributions to Metal Finishing News and by supporting customers and colleagues across Europe.

Highly knowledgeable, technically gifted, and internationally experienced, Paul was recognised not only for his expertise in Ervin's products and abrasive blasting applications but also for his willingness to help others. His colleagues remember him as motivated, cooperative, and approachable, with an exceptional team spirit. He led by example, treating everyone with kindness and respect, embracing different cultures, and earning admiration throughout the industry.

Beyond his technical accomplishments, Paul was a larger-than-life character. He had a distinctive sense of style, from his trademark hats to his impressive beard, and an enthusiasm for discovering great coffee, fine food, and good company wherever his travels took him. His infectious grin and sharp sense of humour ensured there were rarely any quiet evenings when Paul was around, and his positive outlook made him someone people naturally gravitated towards.

Paul approached life with passion. He was deeply committed to his profession, continually expanding his technical knowledge and embracing new technologies. Outside work, he channelled the same enthusiasm into fitness, enjoying running, yoga, and triathlons, while his love of science fiction and superheroes reflected his curiosity and imagination.

Above all, Paul was devoted to his family. He was immensely proud of his wife and two children, who remained at the centre of everything he did.

Paul's passing leaves a profound void for his family, friends, colleagues, and the many customers who had the privilege of working alongside him. He will be remembered not only as an outstanding technical professional but also as a warm, generous, and genuine person whose friendship, humour, and enthusiasm enriched the lives of those around him.
